There’s a hidden spirit deep within the paint that can make a person pause, even make a person faint. In Latin America they call it Duende. It’s the secret warm flutter that can speed up the heart and make muscles shudder.
Duende is the power of art to deeply move one’s soul.
Holly Victoria Turner-Thakran embodied duende in its purest form. A graduate of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, she dove headlong into the street art of Latin America and was particularly mesmerised with the creativity coming out of Columbia. It was to be her life’s journey.
She soon became a collector and in late 2017, with the opening of Artitude Galería in Singapore, she became this beautiful bridge between Asia and the Latin American art scene.
At Artitude we are telling a story in the language we are most fluent: the language of visual arts,
a vernacular not of words but of images that dazzle, perplex and represent a kaleidoscope, of not just a visual experience, but of a unique time and situation that the artist is trying to convey.
Our Founders
On a warm sunny evening in August 2021, Holly and her friend Raveena Anand shared an idea over a glass of wine: why not bring this exhilarating art to a larger audience in the form of luxurious candles and dinnerware sets.
Artitude home was born.
Holly’s passion and energy was complemented by Raveena’s enviable track record in design, creation and supply for boutiques and e-commerce companies. Such was their shared focus and conviction, the process from ideation to realisation was completed in a matter of weeks.
As fate would have it, Holly Victoria Turner-Thakran left us in October, 2021.
Much of what we do today at Artitude Home is an aspiration to carry on her legacy of selflessness and love of art. Her beloved husband Ravi Thakran is more than just our partner at Artitude Home: he’s the guiding hand that has turned Holly’s vision into a reality.
